The postgraduate symposium Resonating Stages: Postgraduate Symposium of the School of Creative and Performing Arts brings together the work and research of the School’s postgraduate students attending the MA Contemporary Performance and the MA Creative Music Practice programmes. The second day of the symposium includes a keynote talk from performance artist Izzie Major.

Izzie Major is a performance artist whose work explores the absurd, the ritualistic, the macabre, the mystical, the feminine and the grotesque. You may like to imagine her as a love-child of Antonin Artaud, Samuel Beckett, and Patty and Selma. A lover of anything kitsch and apocalyptic, she enjoys net curtains, mould, and bald caps. She has a current obsession and love/hate relationship with domesticity, and its strange and questionable role in humanity.

Izzie’s creative practice has its roots in automatism, improvisation, and surrealism. She loves collaborating with all beings, human and non-human, and has worked with a range of arts organisations including Hope Street Limited, Tate Liverpool, Liverpool Biennial, Bluecoat and most recently Sisters Hope in Denmark. She also works in a range of community settings, currently running creative workshops with women’s centre Tomorrows Women Wirral for the development of her new show CURTAINS CURTAINS CURTAINS CURTAINS CURTAINS and namely Ullet Road Church where she facilitates community groups and an alternative Sunday School, the Rainbow Rebels.
