The Death of Stalin is a 2017 political satire comedy film written and directed by Armando Iannucci and co-written by David Schneider, Ian Martin and Peter Fellows. It stars Steve Buscemi, Simon Russell Beale, Paddy Considine and Paul Whitehouse. Based on the French graphic novel La mort de Staline, the film depicts the power struggle following the death of Soviet revolutionary and politician Joseph Stalin in 1953. The film received its premiere in the Platform section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and garnered critical acclaim. It was banned in Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
