Tchaikovsky – Romeo & Juliet
Tchaikovsky – Piano Concerto No.1
Tchaikovsky – Symphony No.6 “Pathétique”
Conductor: Sergej Bolkhovets
Piano: Slava Sidorenko
With Valentine’s Day so close tonight we have a programme bursting with lush harmonies and romantic melodies that will give a firm tug on your heart-strings in the way that only Tchaikovsky can. What could be more fitting than to start with his fantasy overture to star-crossed lovers, Romeo & Juliet? Following this we are delighted to welcome back Slava Sidorenko after his phenomenal debut with the LMO last season, to play Tchaikovsky’s ever popular first Piano Concerto. Tchaikovsky’s final symphony, the “Pathétique”, is the crowning glory of his symphonic compositions – its four movements will have you singing, dancing, cheering and crying in equal measure! Our Tchaikovsky Festival will be deftly conducted under the baton of Russian-born Sergej Bolkhovets, who due to popular demand we welcome back for the first of two concerts this season.
NB: this concert will take place in the Great Hall at Liverpool Hope University's Creative Campus. There will be a pre-concert talk at 6.45pm.
