Piano Forte

Sunday, 24 November 2019 Time: 4pm
Jacques Malchance & The Capstone Theatre present PIANO FORTE, a celebration of the piano as a solo instrument, featuring five Liverpool based pianists and composers (Giacomo Fazi, Nina Windsor-Roe, Jez Wing, Karen Wynne and Nick Smith) performing all original material composed exclusively for this event.

Also known as "Jacques Malchance", is a Composer, Dj, Producer, Promoter and Radio Host from Rome, Italy, based in Liverpool, UK. He is the founding member of bands Hapytap and Barberos, as well as net-label and events collective Upitup Records and arts collective Distant Future. His works span across electronic music, classical music and contemporary experimental music; specialising in organ, piano and synthesizer instrumentation. He has performed piano recitals of the works of Erik Satie, Claude Debussy and Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures At An Exhibition in its entirety; and has composed commissioned work for Light Night, The Kazimier and Walk The Plank.
Nina Windsor-Roe was a founding member of The Frocks in the early 90’s. Since then has played with other bands and has collaborated with many other artists. Her work ranges through theatre, radio and film and she has performed her music in many UK venues. She has recently finished putting together her own professional piano tracking studio, and performed her own original material at the Discordia Exhibition.
Composer, songwriter, and producer Jez Wing is the current keyboard player for Liverpool post-punk legends Echo & The Bunnymen. As songwriter and composer he produced the first of a triptych of folk/alt-pop influenced music entitled Believe Me To Remain in 2015. Jez performs a set of solo piano compositions with his trademark percussive, pop-organ keyboard technique, with a folk/jazz/classical influenced compositional style. This set of solo piano compositions are from a piano-based LP in the making, entitled The Land Of The Living. These pieces draw from themes of soul connections, and conversations between future, present and past spirits. Musical influences including Keith Jarrett, Yann Tierson and Philip Glass are very much present in these compositions.

Karen Wynne is a pianist, guitarist, clarinet player and composer. Her recent work has been largely with dance companies performing and composing, but over the years she has also played keyboards, sung in a Senegalese mbalax band, performed sacred choral music, been part of a successful psychedelic rock band and worked in street theatre (amongst other things!). She's always delighted to get a chance to perform as a pianist - the piano being her first and biggest love.
Nick Smith is a pianist and composer who has has performed at some of the world's top venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall, London, and the Lincoln Center, New York. He has also recorded in studios such as Abbey Road and Air Studios for film and TV soundtracks including Star Wars and Sleepy Hollow. His award-winning composition work features actors such as Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men), Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) and Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) and includes commissions for international online and TV campaigns across brands such as Google, Facebook, Heineken, Alfa Romeo and Burberry.
